Wall StreetAll signs were pointing to a rally today as EU finance ministers finalized Greece’s second bailout package late last night. It looks like the deal has been met with skepticism as investors wonder what will happen after elections in Greece this spring. Stocks have already seen a good first month and a half of 2012, we could be seeing some profit taking today as well. Right now the Dow, Nasdaq and S&P 500 are up a fraction of a percent.

Investors are looking for direction today after they received two pieces of conflicting news. Moody’s went on a downgrade spree in Europe after the close yesterday, while German investor sentiment numbers improved. Currently, Dow futures are are down 3 points to 12,832. Nasdaq 100 futures are slightly in positive territory, up .25 to 2,568. The S&P 500 futures are down .75 points 1,348.25.

Domestically, the economic data calendar is full today. At 8:30am EST, retail sales numbers will be released. January import prices are due at the same time. Expectations are for an increase of .9%. Analysts are pointing towards gains in car-sales and chain-stores.

At 10am, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner is scheduled to testify before the Senate Finance Committee regarding President’s Obama’s budget. Undoubtedly this will be a partisan circus act with the GOP looking to score political points in the run-up to the election. [Read more...]

Stocks opened higher this morning, but have since given up some of their gains. Investors were relieved to see Greece approve austerity deal in order to get another rescue package. The situation in the Middle East is heating up today after attacks against Israeli diplomats in Georgia and India. Israel is blaming Iran and Hezbollah for the attacks. The Dow is up 48 points, the Nasdaq is up 18 points and the S&P 500 is up 6 points.

Complete Genomics, Inc. (NASDAQ:GNOM) is up 46.20% this morning at $4.78. GNOM has traded 8.7 million shares so far today, well above its daily average of 676 thousand shares. Investors Shake off Greek Deal and Jobless Claims Numbers

Stocks are trading flat heading into midday trading as investors shrug off reports of a Greek deal and a drop in jobless claims. Reports came in this morning of a possible deal out of Greece. The deal would allow the financially struggling nation to receive a second bailout package.

Closer to home, jobless claims fell 15,000 to a seasonally-adjusted 358,000 according to the Labor Department. This is the second lowest level in almost four years. Many economists had expected claims to go up 3,000. While jobless claims fell, wholesale inventories rose 1% in December. This was higher than the 0.4% gain analysts were expecting.

Earnings season continues to be busy with companies releasing earnings earlier today and a few slated for after the market close.

Pepsico, Inc. (NYSE:PEP) shares took a hit this morning after the company reported better than expected profits, but guidance saw a 5% decline in 2012 earnings. This decline comes as Pepsico increases advertising and manufacturing costs. The company also announced it will be cutting nearly 9,000 jobs in restructuring. PEP is down 3.84% right now at $64.18.

Credit Suisse Group (NYSE:CS) is seeing a sell off today after the bank posted a quarterly loss. The company reported a net loss of $698 million, analysts were expecting a profit of $471 million. This loss comes as the company took $1.07 billion of charges to speed up cost cutting and dumping of risky assets. CS is down 3.33% at $26.72.

Visa Inc. (NYSE:V) is rallying today after announcing better than expected earnings late yesterday. The company also announced a share repurchase program worth $500 million. Also, many different brokerages increased their target prices for Visa. V is up 4.28% at $112.99.

Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) is down slightly in midday trading despite posting better than expected results and raising their dividend. CSCO is down 0.08% at $20.4141.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) share are up today as Canaccord Genuity raised their price target from $650 to $665. Apple shares are up nearly $40 a share in the past week.

Investors will be eying Activision Blizzard, Inc. (NASDAQ:ATVI) and LinkedIn Corporation (NASDAQ:LNKD) as well as other companies after the market close when they report earnings.

Stocks are edging lower in midday trading as a deal has still not been reached in Greece for its second bailout package. Patience is beginning to run out as investors are ready to see a solution to the European sovereign debt problem. The Dow is down 38 points right now, the Nasdaq is down 5 points and the S&P is off 2 points.

Caesars Entertainment Corporation (NASDAQ:CZR) is up 73.22% in midday trading at $15.59. Caesars IPO was today and shares opened at $9 and have quickly run up on heavy volume. CZR has traded 7.1 million shares so far today.

Calix, Inc. (NYSE:CALX) is up 26.43% today at $10.86. CALX has traded 1.7 million shares so far today, 6 times its daily average. CALX shares are up today after the company reported its fourth quarter results yesterday. Calix beat EPS estimates by $0.02 and beat revenue estimates. The company has a market cap of 515.52 million.

FriendFinder Networks Inc. (NASDAQ:FFN) is up 14.29% in midday trading at $1.68. FFN has traded 1.3 million shares so far today, well above the stock’s daily average of 400 thousand shares. MNI shares are up today thanks to positive fourth quarter results from the company. Net income rose to $42 million compared to $15.7 million a year ago. The company has a market cap of 238.28 million.

Solarwinds, Inc. (NYSE:SWI) is up 9.56% in midday trading at $36.45. SWI has traded 2.5 million shares today, more than double the stock’s daily average. Solarwinds is rallying today after fourth quarter results. Solarwinds beat estimates by $0.04 and beat on revenue. The company reported EPS of $0.29 per share and revenue rose 34.3% from last year to $55.6 million. The company has a market cap of 2.66 billion.

Standard Pacific Corp. (NYSE:SPF) is up 16.42% today at $4.71. SPF has traded 8.5 million shares so far today, 4 times its daily average.
