Stocks Rally on New Home Sales Report, Stocks to Watch: SEH, FB, LL, RFMD, PLCM, MNST

Wall StreetStocks are up this morning thanks to a better than expected home sales report and a few positive earnings reports. New home sales jumped 5.7% in September to a seasonally adjusted rate of 389,000. Economists were expecting a rate of 385,000 units.

Boeing shares are up today after posting earnings that beat expectations and revenue that met expectations. Boeing also announced an upbeat forecast for the full year. Facebook is one of the biggest gainers on the market today with shares up more than 20% after the company reported revenue jumped 32% thanks to gains it has made in the mobile arena.

In late morning trading, the Dow is up 47 points, the Nasdaq is up 6 points and the S&P 500 is up 3 points. [Read more...]

Stock Futures Drift Ahead of NFP Report, Stocks to Watch: ZNGA, FB, CTIC, VRNG, HPQ, TM

The market is in a wait and see mode as investors look to the NFP report for direction. Last month’s announcement of QE3 means that if the numbers disappoint, the likelihood of additional stimulus is essentially zero. Expectations are for 110k jobs and a downtick of the unemployment rate to 8.1%.

Market watchers are still trying to determine the outcomes of the election and their effects on the market. Romney seems more inclined to tackle the deficit which would harm the market in the short term. He has also pledged to replace Fed chief Ben Bernanke after his term is up. Granted this is all said in the heat of the campaign, and seeing as Romney’s biggest contributors are investment houses, it is probably doubtful anything major would happen.

In commodities, oil prices are dropping this morning with Nymex futures down 91 cents to $90.80 per barrel. Gold is also off a bit as it trades near the $1800 per ounce level.

Internationally most markets were up in the overnight hours. Japan took a brief dip after the BOJ refrained from announcing further monetary easing action. Japan ended their session higher though as investors shook that piece of news off. [Read more...]

Stocks Hold Losses In Late Trading: RIMM, NOK, FB, HPQ, S, MU

Stocks continue to trade lower with about an hour left in the trading day. Investors continue to be apprehensive in this market due to ongoing euro zone financial woes. Spain is the main problem in Europe right now with yields on their 10-year bonds jumping above 6%. Anti-austerity protests have swept Spain and Greece this week as their citizens protest bailout plans that would mean more austerity for them.

The major stock averages remain in negative territory today with the Dow down 23 points, the Nasdaq down 19 points and the S&P 500 down 5 points. [Read more...]

QLogic Corp. (NASDAQ:QLGC) is down 20.23% today at $10.06. QLGC has traded 4.02 million shares so far today, well above its average volume of 1.7 million shares. Wall StreetSprint Nextel Corp. (NYSE:S) is up 14.84% this morning at $3.87. S has traded 3.9 million shares in pre market trading and trades 50.3 million shares a day on average. S shares are rallying in pre market as second quarter sales beat estimates. Sprint reported a wider loss for the second quarter of $1.37 billion, or $0.46 a share. Analysts were expecting a loss of $0.41 a share. The company has a market cap of 10.11 billion.

Zynga, Inc. (NASDAQ:ZNGA) is down 40% in pre market trading at $3.05. ZNGA has traded 1.2 million shares this morning and trades 23.9 million shares a day on average. ZNGA shares are tanking after the company reported bad earnings and severely cut its outlook. Zynga reported adjusted earnings of just a $0.01 per share, below expectations of $0.05 per share. Stock Futures Slightly Red As Euro Concerns Mount, Stocks to Watch: SIRI, STO, NOK, ARNA, BAC, FB

investment newsAnother day, more Euro concerns. A meeting of the EU finance ministers is ongoing and investors are waiting to see what kind of kick the can measures Europe can possibly come up with now. Their summit from last week last week did little calm the rolling markets.

Currently Dow futures are down 36, the Nasdq 6 and the S&P 4 points.

In commodities oil and gold are both positive in early trading. Oil prices have been whipsawing in the mid $80s as economic conditions and tensions in the middle east battle for supremacy. Nymex futures are currently up 52 cents to nearly $85 per barrel. Gold is up $7.60 to $1,586.40 per ounce. [Read more...]

Stock Futures Higher on Global Easing. Stocks to Watch: SIRI, FB, BIDU, ZNGA, AMZN, CHK

Wall Street signAll eyes will be on Fed chairman Ben Bernanke after China joined the global easing party overnight by cutting lending and deposit rates by 25 bps. Investors are obviously counting on some sort of easing as futures are extending the gains of yesterday’s bull market. Dow futures are up 66 points, Nasdaq futures are adding 16 and the S&P 10 points.

Bernanke is scheduled to testify before a congressional panel at 10am EST. Investors are hoping that he drops further hints about QE3. Analysts say that if he does the risk rally of the past two days will continue.

On the economic data front, jobless claims are slated for release at 8:30am EST. The employment picture has become bleaker as of late with an uptick in unemployment. It will definitely be an index to continue to watch for those hoping for a return of QE. [Read more...]
