Earnings and Existing Home Sales Send Market Lower, Hot Stocks: RVBD, FWRD, MAN, RHI, SNDK, JRCC

Wall Street signMultiple disappointing earnings reports send stocks down in early trading with McDonald’s and General Electric trading lower on poor earnings. McDonald’s missed on earnings, but did beat on revenue while General Electric reported earnings that met Street estimates, but revenue that fell below estimates. Existing home sales piled onto the already negative market with sales dropping 1.7% in September.

Google shares are trading slightly higher this morning after yesterday’s 8% drop on its early earnings release. Google reported earnings per share of $9.03, well below analyst estimates of $10.65.

The major stock averages are all down more than 0.5% this morning with the Dow down 103 points, the Nasdaq down 25 points and the S&P 500 down 9 points. [Read more...]

Wall Street signStocks are off their early highs this morning after a disappointing home sales report. Apple’s earnings miss has sent tech stocks lower with the Nasdaq down about 0.5%. New home sales fell more than 8% in June to a seasonally adjusted 350,000 annual rate. This drop was the biggest of the year and economists were predicting around 370,000 units sold.

Apple shocked investors yesterday after posting a rare miss on earnings. The iPhone missed quarterly results by a wide margin and the company’s guidance for the next quarter disappointed analysts.

The Dow is the only stock average in the green right now and is up 58 points. The Nasdaq and S&P 500 are down 13 points and 2 points respectively. [Read more...]

Stock Futures Point Higher Amid Earnings. Stocks to Watch: AMRN, REXX, MSFT, DANG, SIRI, RVBD, MU

investment newsStocks are pointing higher this morning thanks to a string of earnings beats. Wall Street is trying to snap a 2-session losing streak and close out the week on a positive note. The economic data calendar is light today, so earnings season is running the show domestically. Dow futures are currently up 79 points. Nasdaq and S&P 500 futures are adding 14 and 7 points respectively.

Outside of earnings, the IMF is slated for meetings throughout the weekend on ways to combat crises that could impact global growth. So far they have secured $320 Billion in pledges for their fight.

Meetings between the G-8 and G-20 could have market moving headlines at any point this weekend. The concern is once again Europe and their ongoing saga with the sovereign debt crisis that goes from country to country. [Read more...]

After Hours Report for April 16

NasdaqDefinitely a mixed bag on Wall Street today. The Dow jumped back into positive territory while Apple sent the Nasdaq into the red. Economic data also gave investors a mixed bag as the NY manufacturing index cooled and the housing issue continues to haunt the street. Add in some storm clouds building in Europe and to say we might me in a bit of limbo would be an understatement.

The big news internationally will be Argentina’s nationalization of YPF. That is sure to cause consternation in Spain which has already released a statement saying they are weighing their options (diplo-speak for we ain’t happy). Domestically tech darlings Apple and Google seem to have lost their upward momentum with Apple shares dropping 4% today.

The Dow closed up 72, while the Nasdaq dropped 23. The S&P ended the day flat. [Read more...]
