Amazon said today it has had its best holiday season ever for its Kindle e-readers and tablet computers. The company said consumers bought more than 1 million Kindles each week in December. Amazon’s recently released Kindle Fire is seen as the first true competitor to Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad. Amazon said the Kindle Fire is its best-selling product on their site since they released it 3 months ago.
Even with this increase in competition, the iPad is still expected to outsell all competitors including the Kindle Fire and Barnes & Noble’s Nook tablet.
Shares of Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) are down 0.35% right now at $173.20. AMZN has traded 4.6 million shares so far today and averages 6.7 million shares daily.
