Wall Street signThe US market is getting a slight boost from the ISM numbers that just released. Though a beat on consensus the underlying numbers point to further weakness, especially in employment. The G-7 meeting today is being watched to see if there is going to be any coordinated statement from the group of finance ministers.

Europe continues to stare at the cliff wondering which country is going first. With Greece rapidly approaching new elections, the financial crisis has jumped its borders and spread to Spain and Italy. The clamor for common EU bonds is starting to reach a fever pitch and one wonders if Merkel will blink in her opposition to them. If she does, the political consequences for her party will be severe as she heads into a 2013 election.

A quick snapshot of the market has the Dow down 8, the Nasdaq up 4 and the S&P adding 2 points. [Read more...]

Wall Street signStocks are trading slightly lower across the board today as investors continue to feel uncertain about the debt situation in Europe. The market suffered one of its worst days of the year on Friday as each of the major indexes fell more than 2%.

On the economic data front, factory orders fell again in April marking the fourth straight month of declines. Orders fell 0.6% while economists were expecting a rise of 0.2%.

European markets saw thin trading today as U.K. stock markets are closed today and tomorrow on an extended bank holiday for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

China’s service sector continued to slow in May for the second straight month.

In mid-morning trading the Dow is down 21 points, the Nasdaq is down 1 point and the S&P 500 is down 3 points. [Read more...]

After the sell-off yesterday, silver prices are looking to rebound this morning as the dollar pares its gains. The metal has been hit hard in recent days in the lead up to the EU summit and its subsequent ‘nothing happened’ outcome. Europe sill remains a major concern as they do not seem to have an answer for Greece and any contagion that may emerge from a Greek exit.

Currently silver is up 57 cents to $28.41. Still off the $30 level it once held, but with market uncertainty still prevalent it could regain those levels rather quickly if more monetary easing was announced. [Read more...]

Gold and silverEuropean woes returned to the market today as leaders convene for a summit on the burgeoning Greek debt crisis. While promising to do all they can to keep Greece within the union, the uncertainty is causing headaches across the market.

Silver prices, along with gold, are taking sizable hits from the lack of a clear path for Greece. Once the EU stops flailing around and provides a clear path for Greece, most analysts expect the metals to start recovering some of their steep losses.

Gold and silverCommodities took a hit overnight on news Fitch downgraded Japan’s soveriegn debt rating due to the country increasing its public sector debt load. This news sent the dollar up, but increased selling pressure in the commodities market. Spot silver prices are currently trading up at around $28.60, off its low of $28 earlier this morning.

Traders are now looking ahead to a EU leaders’ summit in Brussels on Wednesday to see what steps officials will take to control the EU debt crisis. [Read more...]

Silver Prices Red on G8 Fluff Statement. Silver Stocks to Watch: SLW, HL, PAAS, AGQ, SLV, EXK, CDE

Wall StreetThe ambiguous statement out of the G8 over the weekend is helping to prop up the Euro, which in turn is weakening silver prices. Obviously a fluff statement, which is the norm, it was done out of the lack of consensus for firm action. With multiple major events in the coming weeks including new Greek elections, expect volatility to remain in the silver market.

The well-intentioned statement out of the G8 will do its job in the short-term of propping up the Euro, but without a definitive plan of action it is destined to be rolled back into more market turmoil.

The current silver spot price is down 49 cents to $28.23 per ounce. [Read more...]
