Gold and Silver Prices Steady on Central Banks Commitment. Stocks to Watch: KGC, ABX, NEM, AUY, GG, AGQ, SLV, HL, SLW, CDE

Gold pricesGold and Silver prices are holding steady today as sellers were thwarted by pledges of coordinated action from central banks across the world if Greece’s elections this week cause market turmoil.

Greeks head to the polls for the second time in the past few months in hopes that a government will be formed this time. The last official poll a few weeks ago showed the left and right parties neck and neck The leftist party rejects the bailout deal from February and both parties wish to remain in the EU. EU officials have reiterated that Greece must adhere to the bailout terms struck earlier this year if it wishes to remain in the EU.

Spot gold prices are up about $4 this morning at $1,627.50 while silver trades slightly higher at $28.710.

Gold and Silver Stocks

Kinross Gold Corporation (NYSE:KGC) is up more than 1% this morning at $8.80. In the first hour of trading, KGC has traded 2.7 million shares. KGC trades just over 10 million shares a day on average. KGC shares have jumped $0.60 a share over the past two days. The company has a market cap of 9.98 billion.

Barrick Gold Corporation (NYSE:ABX) is unchanged right now at $38.99. ABX has traded nearly 2 million shares this morning and averages 9.08 million shares a day. ABX shares have seen choppy trading all week long between $38 and $39. The company has a market cap of 39.03 billion.

Newmont Mining Corp. (NYSE:NEM) is down 0.16% today at $50.60. NEM has traded 1.3 million shares so far today and trades 7.5 million shares a day on average. Despite trading lower today, NEM shares are up about $1 a share from Monday’s low of $49.50. The company has a market cap of 25.21 billion.

Yamana Gold, Inc. (NYSE:AUY) is down 0.92% this morning at $16.16. AUY has traded 959 thousand shares so far today and trades 7.2 million shares a day on average. The company has a market cap of 12.09 billion.

Goldcorp Inc. (NYSE:GG) is down 0.20% today at $39.57. GG has traded 908 thousand shares so far today and trades 6.4 million shares a day on average. GG shares are down about $1 a share over the past few days. The company has a market cap of 32.08 billion.

ProShares Ultra Silver (NYSEARCA:AGQ) is up 0.31% this morning at $41.91. AGQ has traded nearly 300 thousand shares in early trading and trades 1.6 million shares a day on average.

iShares Silver Trust (NYSEARCA:SLV) is up 0.25% this morning at $27.89. SLV has traded 1.7 million shares so far today and trades 13.9 million shares a day on average. SLV shares are up slightly on the week and were trading as high as $28.20 on Wednesday.

Hecla Mining Co. (NYSE:HL) is down 1.67% today at $4.7029. HL has traded 1.3 million shares this morning and trades 5.2 million shares a day on average. The company has a market cap of 1.34 billion.

Silver Wheaton Corp. (NYSE:SLW) is down 0.85% this morning at $27.86. SLW has traded 894 thousand shares so far today and trades 5.7 million shares a day on average. The company has a market cap of 9.85 billion.

Coeur d’Alene Mines Corporation (NYSE:CDE) is down 0.69% today at $18.80. CDE has traded 377 thousand shares this morning and trades 1.5 million shares a day on average. The company has a market cap of 1.69 billion.
