Hot Stocks to Watch: KERX, DMD, AONE, AMRN, ZAGG, MDRX

Wall Street signThe broader market is mostly negative today after two economic data points released. The Chicago PMI hit a 29-month low and consumers reined in spending in March after a sizable jump in February. If the losses hold, the major indices could be heading for an overall monthly loss.

Internationally, pressure in building on Spain after they officially entered into a recession. This was in addition to the S&P downgrade of the the country’s sovereign debt rating. Investors should get used to hearing about Europe again. French elections are just around the corner and could put pressure on on the ECB/EU rescue pacts.

Currently the Dow is off 38 points, near its session low. The Nasdaq and S&P are both edging lower, down 20 and 8 points respectively.

Keryx Biopharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ:KERX) is up 6.45% this morning at $1.65. KERX has traded 1.03 million shares so far today and trades 3.8 million shares a day on average. KERX shares are trying to rebound today after the stock fell more than $0.40 a share last week. The company has a market cap of 117.83 million.

Demand Media, Inc. (NYSE:DMD) is up 23.03% today at $8.90. DMD has traded 1.3 million shares this morning, more than 4 times its daily average. DMD shares are rallying today after a report over the weekend that the Demand Media pulled out of a deal to go private with Thomas H. Lee Partners in a $1.2 billion deal. The company has a market cap of 724.39 million.

A123 Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:AONE) is up 1.79% in early trading at $1.6 million shares so far today and trades 3.6 million shares a day on average. AONE shares were trading as high as $1.23 today and are up more than 30% the past week with most of these gains coming on Friday. The company has a market cap of 168.89 million.

Amarin Corporation plc (NASDAQ:AMRN) is up 4.16% today at $12.54. AMRN has traded 3.1 million shares so far today and trades 4.7 million shares a day on average. Citigroup initiated coverage on Amarin today and gave the stock a buy rating. The company has a market cap of 1.72 billion.

ZAGG Inc. (NASDAQ:ZAGG) is up 6.27% this morning at $13.06. ZAGG has traded 872 thousand shares so far today and trades 1.1 million shares a day on average. ZAGG shares have been trending higher over the past week, jumping more than $2 in that time. The company has a market cap of 386.29 million.

Allscripts Healthcare Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:MDRX) is up 4.18% today at $10.72. MDRX has traded 8.1 million shares so far today and trades 4.3 million shares a day on average. Allscripts announced a $200 million increase to stock repurchase program and also announced a new chairman. The company has a market cap of 2.03 billion.
