Wall StreetStocks are pulling back again today following a one month uptrend in the markets that saw the Dow hit nearly 13,300 and the S&P 500 hitting four year highs. Today’s red market comes as investors cautiously await the latest Federal Reserve minutes. The Fed will release the minutes of their latest meeting at 2pm ET. Investors will be watching closely to see if the Fed gives any signs of further stimulus or raising interest rates.

Wall Street signStocks are seeing small gains today with each of the major indexes closing in on 2012 highs. A couple of better than expected economic reports has stocks ending the week on a green note. Consumer sentiment saw a slight increase and hit its highest level since May according to the Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan consumer sentiment survey.

Many investors have been hopeful that another round of QE is coming, but with the recent run up in the markets many analysts are starting become less optimistic of further stimulus. Nomura Securities’ analysts have cut their outlook for another round of stimulus in September to 40%.

With about two hours left in the trading day the Dow is up 4 points, the Nasdaq is 7 points higher and the S&P is up about 0.30 points. [Read more...]

Wall Street signA better than expected retail sales report has stocks in the green this morning. GDP data from France and Germany also came in better than expected as investors grasp any good news they can get out of Europe.

According to the Commerce Department, retail sales jumped 0.8% in July. This is the first increase in four months. Most economists were expecting a 0.3% move.

Looking at the markets right now the Dow is up 30 points, the Nasdaq is up 10 points and the S&P 500 is up 4 points. [Read more...]

Wall Street signStocks are trending lower on Monday as investors continue to worry about global economic growth after a disappointing economic report from Japan. Japan’s economy grew at 0.3% in the second quarter, 50% less than estimates of a 0.6% increase. Bank of America announced it has cut its 2012 growth estimate for China to 7.7%, down from 8%.

Stocks Heading South In Morning Trading: CCOI, ASTI, ALTH, THS, ACHN, GOOG

Cogent Communications Group (NASDAQ:CCOI) is down 16.16% this morning at $15.79. CCOI is down on heavy volume after, one of its customers, was raided and shutdown by the FBI. CCOI has traded nearly 5 million shares already today, well above its average of just 357 thousand shares. The company has a market cap of 701.44 million.

Ascent Solar Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:ASTI) has dropped 15.18% in early trading at $0.8991. ASTI has traded 1.1 million shares today, more than five times its daily average. Ascent Solar is pulling back today as traders lock in profits following more than 100% move since the start of the new year. The company has a market cap of 33.93 million.

Allos Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:ALTH) is down 12.05% today at $1.46. ALTH has traded close to 1.6 million shares this morning, more than twice its usual volume. The company received a negative opinion from the European Medicines Agency Committee for Medical Products (CHMP) on its drug Folotyn. The company has a market cap of 153.60 million.

Treehouse Foods, Inc. (NYSE:THS) is down 12.36% this morning at $55.05. THS has traded 1.5 million shares so far today, well above its average volume of 210 thousand shares. THS shares are down today after the company’s fourth quarter misses analysts’ estimates. The company has a market cap of 1.98 billion.

Achillion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:ACHN) is down 9.04% today at $9.66. ACHN has traded 1.6 million shares today, 600 thousand shares more than its daily average. ACHN shares have dropped more than $2 a share since last Friday. The company has a market cap of 668.72 million.

Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) is down nearly 8% this morning at $589.00. GOOG shares have dropped more than $50 a share today after earnings fall short of expectations. Earnings excluding items rose to $9.50 per share, but fell well short of analysts’ estimates of $10.49 per share. Revenue came in at $8.13 billion, short of the $8.41 million expected. GOOG has traded 5.2 million shares today, close to double its average volume already. The company has a market cap of 190.81 billion.
