There was a bit of good news today though as weekly jobless claims fell 26,000 to their lowest levels in four years. It should be noted that many consider this report an outlier because of the holiday shortened week and the fact that many factories undergo a ‘retooling’ during the first week of July. After Hours Trading Report for April 17

Investors at the NYSEA sense of calm over Europe helped tech stocks power the broader market to a massive rally. The Dow logged its best day in a month with IBM pushing higher ahead of earnings – the stock is dropping in after-hours as its earnings released.

Earnings season is in full swing with Yahoo shares jumping in after-hours after the company swung to a 1st quarter profit.

Gold prices also ended the day higher, breaking a two session losing streak. The metal is matching the moves of the broader market, but in a more muted fashion. It seems gold lacks direction as it weighs news out of Europe but realizes that the concern over their debt situation is far from resolved. [Read more...]

Biggest Nasdaq Losers in Early Trading: GERN, TSTC, TWER, ZAGG, CADX

Geron Corporation (NASDAQ:GERN) is down $0.43 at $1.77, a loss of 19.55%. Shares of Geron fell this morning after the company said it would drop stem cells and focus on cancer. The company will also cut 66 jobs. GERN has traded 4.2 million shares so far today, four times its daily average. GERN has been on a steady decline since May when the stock was trading over $5/share. The company has a current market cap of 232.64 million.

Telestone Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:TSTC) is down 20.71% this morning at $5.55. TSTC has traded 352 thousand shares so far today, twice its daily average. The company announced third quarter results this morning. TSTC had been trending upward until about a week ago when it was trading above $9. The company has a current market cap of 68.32 million.

Towerstream Corporation (NASDAQ:TWER) is trading down 24% this morning at $2.05. The stock is dipping this morning after the company reported third quarter results late yesterday. TWER reported a net loss of $2.6 million, up from the previous quarter of 1.2 million. TWER has traded 778 thousand shares this morning, more than double its daily average of 332 thousand shares.

ZAGG Inc. (NASDAQ:ZAGG) is down 15% at $10.27 this morning. ZAGG announced third quarter results yesterday that beat Wall Street’s expectations. I guess investors weren’t impressed with the results as ZAGG is having a steep sell off this morning. ZAGG has traded 1.5 million shares this morning, 500 thousand more than its daily average. Over the past year, ZAGG has hit a low of $6.23 and a high of $17.10. The company has a current market cap of 305.12 million.

Cadence Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ:CADX) is down 5% at $3.75 this morning. CADX has traded 5.2 million shares this morning after the company announced the pricing of public offering at $3.75. The company has a current market cap of 239 million.
