Market Recovering Slightly in Late-Morning Trading, NYSE Stocks to Watch

Floor of the New York Stock ExchangeStocks have come up off their lows in late morning trading, but are still lower on the day. China’s economic outlook is keeping investors at bay today. Bank of America (NYSE:BAC) is rallying this morning in an unusual move against the market after the bank said it has no intention of introducing additional equity in a secondary offering, contrary to recent rumors. BAC shares are currently up 4.51% at $9.96.

Approaching midday, the Dow is down about 70 points, the Nasdaq is down 18 points and the S&P 500 is down 6 points.

NYSE Stocks to Watch

Tiffany & Co. (NYSE:TIF) is up 6.79% today at $73.35. TIF has traded heavy volume already today with 5.1 million shares traded, more than double its daily average. TIF shares are climbing today after issuing a strong forecast for 2012. Tiffany did post a slight drop in fourth quarter earnings, but investors ignored that in favor of its forecast. Market Continues Negative, Midday Movers: TEAR, GALE, WPX, PPO, YELP, LCC

Wall StreetStocks continue to trade in negative territory today as worst than expected economic data from Europe and China weights on investors. China cut its 2012 growth target to 7.5% as the country. Chinese Premiere Wen Jiabao said the country hopes to reach this new target by using prudent monetary policies to fight pressure to its growth and high inflation. Investors continue to worry about a Greek default. Last week, Moody’s downgraded Greece to the lowest bond rating.

In the U.S., economic news continues to be positive. The ISM index for February hit 57.3, beating economists’ expectations of 56.1. Positive news closer to home couldn’t overshadow negative news overseas though. Right now the Dow is down 45 points, the Nasdaq is off 28 points and the S&P 500 is down 8 points.

TearLab Corporation (NASDAQ:TEAR) is up 11.93% in midday trading at $1.97. TEAR is up on above average volume with 220 thousand shares traded. TEAR shares are bouncing back today after dipping from $2 to $1.70 over the past two weeks. On the year, TEAR is up about $0.90 from its low of $1.10. The company has a market cap of 40.42 million. Greek Worries Push Futures Into The Red. Stocks to Watch: AMLN, AAPL, CTIC, ISTA, BAC, LCC

Another day, another set of worries on Greece. The multi-year saga on Greek bailouts continues this morning with renewed concerns over whether Greece can avoid a default. Dow futures are off 80 points to 12,534. Nasdaq 100 futures are down 16.50 points to 2,440, and S&P 500 futures are shedding nearly 10 pints to 1,303.

The German Finance Minister told the Wall Street Journal this morning that Greece had to get their finances in order if they expected to receive a fresh bailout. His interview came after a weekend of German demands that Greece give up its financial sovereignty. This was subsequently denied by Greece and has led to more tension in the EU. The lack of a deal has sent the global markets lower. Chinese stocks, after a week of holidays, opened lower. The banking heavy Stoxx 600 Europe is currently down nearly a percent as investors return to a risk-off game-plan.

Economic data for the morning includes personal income and consumer spending. Both are set to release at 8:30am EST.

In commodities, gold prices continued to pull back slightly after their sustained run. Gold is down $8 to $1723.60. Oil prices are following suit, down 45 cents to $99.12. Crude futures continue to remain locked in around the $100 per barrel mark.

Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMLN) is up 16.64% in pre market trading at $14.16. AMLN shares are jumping this morning after the FDA approved the company’s Bydureon diabetes drug. AMLN shares have jumped more than $3 a share since last Tuesday. The company has a market cap of 1.78 billion.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is down 0.39% in pre market trading at $445.50. AAPL shares are down this morning as the overall market is set to open lower due to Europe concerns. Cell Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:CTIC) is down 15.79% in pre market trading at $1.12. CTIC shares are tanking today after the company pulled its new drug application for Pixurvi and plans to resubmit later this year. The company has a market cap of 246.04 million.

ISTA Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:ISTA) is down 6.16% in pre market trading at $7.47. ISTA shares are falling today after Valeant Pharmaceuticals withdrew offer for acquisition of ISTA Pharmaceuticals. ISTA trades 378 thousand shares a day on average and has a market cap of 330.35 million.

Bank of America Corp (NYSE:BAC) is down 1.78% this morning at $7.16. BAC shares are falling with the overall market this morning. US Airways Group, Inc. (NYSE:LCC) is up 7.46% in pre market trading at $8.79. LCC shares are up after reports that Delta is considering buying the company. LCC shares are up more than $2 since last Wednesday. The company has a market cap of 1.33 billion.

Early Stock Gainers As Overall Market Looks Weak: LCC, TXT, CA, HGSI, AFFX, DAL

Most of the market is looking weaker this morning with the exception of the Nasdaq, which is being propped up by Apple. Apple released its earnings yesterday and blew away Wall Street estimates. The Dow and S&P are both negative as the overall market falls on poor home sales news. Pending home sales fell more than expected in December, with a 3.5% drop. Analysts were expecting a 1% drop. As always, Europe continues to be one of the contributing causes to any market pull back as the debt crisis in that region continues. The Dow is currently down 81 points, the Nasdaq is up 6 points and the S&P 500 is down 4 points.

US Airways Group, Inc. (NYSE:LCC) is up 15.44% today at $7.41. LCC shares are rallying after US Airways earnings beat Wall Street’s expectations. Excluding charges, US Airways earned $0.13 per share in the fourth quarter, well above analysts’ estimates of $0.02 per share. Revenue jumped 9% to $3.16 billion. The company would have earned even more if not for soaring fuel prices. LCC has traded 8.6 million shares so far today, 2 million shares more than its daily average. Textron Inc. (NYSE:TXT) is up 14.39% this morning at $24.72. TXT has traded 7.7 million shares so far today, close to double its daily average. Textron posted a fourth quarter loss today, but shares rose on the company’s outlook. The company expects 2012 profit from continuing operations to be between $1.80 and $2 per share. Analysts had estimated around $1.66 per share. The company has a market cap of 6.90 billion.

CA Inc. (NASDAQ:CA) is up 9.96% in early trading at $25.10. CA has traded 8.5 million shares so far today, about triple its daily average volume. CA shares are climbing after reporting its fiscal third quarter results. The company also announced it will increase its annual dividend five times to $1. Earnings rose 32% in the fiscal third quarter. The company has a market cap of 12.37 billion.

Human Genome Sciences, Inc. (NASDAQ:HGSI) is up 5.81% today at $9.66. HGSI has traded 5.7 million shares so far this morning and trades 6.6 million shares a day on average. HGSI shares are up more than $2 a share since the start of the new year. The company has a market cap of 1.94 billion.
