Stock Futures Drift Ahead of NFP Report, Stocks to Watch: ZNGA, FB, CTIC, VRNG, HPQ, TM

The market is in a wait and see mode as investors look to the NFP report for direction. Last month’s announcement of QE3 means that if the numbers disappoint, the likelihood of additional stimulus is essentially zero. Expectations are for 110k jobs and a downtick of the unemployment rate to 8.1%.

Market watchers are still trying to determine the outcomes of the election and their effects on the market. Romney seems more inclined to tackle the deficit which would harm the market in the short term. He has also pledged to replace Fed chief Ben Bernanke after his term is up. Granted this is all said in the heat of the campaign, and seeing as Romney’s biggest contributors are investment houses, it is probably doubtful anything major would happen.

In commodities, oil prices are dropping this morning with Nymex futures down 91 cents to $90.80 per barrel. Gold is also off a bit as it trades near the $1800 per ounce level.

Internationally most markets were up in the overnight hours. Japan took a brief dip after the BOJ refrained from announcing further monetary easing action. Japan ended their session higher though as investors shook that piece of news off. [Read more...]

Stocks Head Higher On Draghi Comments, Stocks to Watch: CLRX, VRNG, ARQL, NIHD, CUR, JRCC

The major stock averages are up in midday trading thanks to encouraging comments from ECB President Mario Draghi. Draghi said today that the announcement of the ECB’s bond buying program has helped ease market tensions. He also said the central bank stands ready to buy bonds of any euro zone country that asks for it. This bodes well for the widely expected Spanish bailout that could come as early as this weekend.

Investors will be watching tomorrow very closely as new unemployment numbers are released. At midday, the Dow is up 67 points, the Nasdaq is up 2 points and the S&P 500 is up 7 points. [Read more...]

Pre Market Winners: VRNG, BZH, RBN, MDRX, JRCC, AMRN

Wall StreetVringo, Inc. (NYSE:VRNG) is up 4.07% in pre market trading at $3.58. VRNG has traded 278 thousand shares this morning and trades 2.2 million shares a day on average. Vringo announced today it will acquire over 500 patents and applications from Nokia. Vringo also announced a $31.2 million registered direct offering of stock. The company has a market cap of 19.86 million.

Beazer Homes USA Inc. (NYSE:BZH) is up 5.62% in pre market at $2.82. BZH has traded 86 thousand shares this morning and trades 5.1 million shares a day on average. BZH shares were upgraded by JPMorgan today from underweight to overweight. The company has a market cap of 264.46 million. [Read more...]

Cheap Stocks Moving Higher This Morning: CPRX, SANM, OCLR, STEM, SRPT, VRNG

Wall Street signProblems in the euro zone continue to affect the markets today. Stock markets in Europe were taking a hit today after Moody’s put Germany, Luxembourg and the Netherlands on negative watch. This sent a signal that no eurozone economy is safe from the problems plaguing countries such as Spain and Italy. PMI results also disappointed in Europe.

Closer to home, economic data showed lower manufacturing activity in the mid-Atlantic region. The Richmond Fed Manufacturing Index fell at a steeper rate than expected.

The major stock averages are down at least 0.5% this morning. The Dow is down 88 points, the Nasdaq is down 14 points and the S&P 500 is down 8 points. [Read more...]
