The Final Hour: Tech Stocks Lead Market Higher (AAPL, MSFT, HPQ, INTC, DELL)

The markets have shrugged off earlier losses and are now positive with one hour left in the trading day. Tech stocks have led the way, posting strong gains which helped traders’ keep their minds off of the euro zone debt crisis for a little while.

The situation is still fragile in Europe as Italy’s 10 year bonds jumped back above 7%, a level which many believe is unsustainable. Italy’s new prime minister is dealing with economic problems as well as political ones as he tries to assemble a new government quickly to speed up economic reforms.

Each of the major indexes are higher in late afternoon trading with the Dow up 42 points, the Nasdaq up 30 points and the S&P up 8 points.

Let’s take a look at which tech stocks are sending the overall market higher this afternoon.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is up 2.42% at $388.43 today. AAPL has traded nearly 12 million shares today after filings showed Soros Fund Management and hedge fund Greenlight Capital increased their holdings in Apple. AAPL usually trades 20 million shares daily. AAPL stock is trying is finally seeing a green day today after being in the red the last 4 trading sessions. The company has a current market cap of 360.87 billion.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is up 1.17% at $26.86. MSFT has traded 30 million shares so far today, well short of its daily average of 57 million shares. MSFT is trading up both its 50 day EMA and 200 day EMA right now. The company has a current market cap of 225.53 billion.

Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HPQ) is up 3.29% at $28.22 with an hour left in the trading day. HPQ has traded 12 million shares so far today, about half its daily average. HPQ has been trading in a range between $26 and $28 and may close above $28 today. The company has a current market cap of 56.11 billion.

Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) is up 3.17% at $25.41 today. INTC has traded 57 million shares today, 6 million shares shy of its daily average. The company is celebrating its 40th anniversary of the commercial microprocessor. Intel has a current market cap of 129.24 billion.

Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:DELL) is up 2.22% today at $15.66. DELL has traded 18 million shares so far, 8 million short of its daily average. DELL stock has been trading relatively flat for the entire month of November. The company has a current market cap of 28.61 billion.

Stocks have traded lighter volume than usual today. The markets look firmly in the green now and should close that way.
